Centers of Excellence for young RESearchers

The overall project goal of CERES (Centers of Excellence for young RESearchers) is to improve research conditions of young researchers from EU universities and especially from Ukrainian and Belarusian universities.

Therefore we plan to develop a virtual portal and several centers in Ukraine and Belarus in order to promote the collaboration between the target groups: young researchers, academic teachers and enterprises. In general, CERES allows participants to form research groups, collaborate with international research partners and to share information and project results. Using CERES to collaborate is free of charge and is available to students and young researchers from PC universities and enterprises.

For that purpose, prof. Ing. Karol Matiaško PhD from the Department of Informatics at University of Žilina (Slovakia), is leading a consortium of 14 academic, industrial and public non-profit organization from five different countries (Belarus, Czech, Germany, Slovakia and Ukraine). “International specialists from science and industry cooperate for development of applied innovation. We aim at creating platform for support of young researchers”, explains prof. Matiaško. The CERES project is funded with 672.193 Euros per 3 years by the European Union under the TEMPUS IV Programme – Sixth Call for Proposals (EACEA/35/2012). Reference number of the project is 544137-TEMPUS-1-2013-1-SK-TEMPUS-JPHES.

CERES has a long-lasting impact on the higher education of Partner countries. Close to market collaborations with enterprises allow participating universities to access financial resources which ensure future operation and further development of the CERES network. First pilot collaborations between young researchers and enterprises are conducted during the project and are expected to spill over to other young researchers and enterprises.

In accordance with the knowledge triangle concept, increased collaboration between young researchers and enterprises leads to a higher level of innovation and thus positively affects research and education conditions in the higher education when results are integrated in academic training.
