Active learning & ICT-enhanced learning: m-learning & gamification

University of Barcelona 10th to the 14th of December 2018 TOT courses "ACTIVE LEARNING & ICT-ENHANCED LEARNING: m-learning & gamification"

From the 10th to the 14th of December 2018 at the University of Barcelona (Spain) was hold TOT courses "ACTIVE LEARNING & ICT-ENHANCED LEARNING: m-learning & gamification" of the ERASMUS+ CBHE PROJECT  # 585760-EPP-1-2017-1-AM-EPPKA2CBHE-JP “CHANGE IN CLASSROOM: PROMOTING INNOVATIVE TEACHING & LEARNING TO ENHANCE STUDENT LEARNING EXPERIENCE IN EASTERN PARTNERSHIP COUNTRIES”, PRINTeL.

Prarouski Andrei PhD of Technical Sciences, Head of Department of World Economy, Marketing and Investment (Economics faculty) and Lisouskaya Tatsiana PhD of Historical Sciences Associate Professor of Department of Social discipline presented Brest State Technical University.

Teachers

Joan-Tomàs Pujolà Font, PhD in Applied Linguistics at the University of Edinburgh and currently Senior Lecturer at the Department of Language Education in the Faculty of Education at the University of Barcelona (UB). He collaborates in teacher training courses at the Institute of Professional Development of the UB. His research interests focus on different topics related to Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) such as m-learning, telecollaboration and tandem learning, digital communicative competence for teachers, and active methodologies with the use of technology. Aina Chabert

Born in Palma de Mallorca (1983). In 2005 she accomplished her degree on Pedagogy at the University of Barcelona. Since 2004 she took part in several national and international projects based on: Intergenerational Learning, Training in urban spaces, International cooperation, Innovation of learning paths, Social Technologies, and pedagogical update of several regions both in Italy and Spain. From 2005 to 2008 she worked as a researcher in “Innovation of training methodologies by means of ICT and Social Technologies” at Scienter. In 2006 she was Ph.D candidate of the University Pompeu Fabra carrying out her studies in “Humanities: Art, literature and thinking”, and in 2007 she moved to Italy to complement her training with the programme “Languages and Intercultural Communication” of the University of Bologna.

Since 2008 she works as Learning Manager in one of the biggest training consultancy firms of Spain designing and managing international training projects particularly focused in change management methodologies applied on big companies through ICT.


Day 1: Introduction to the course and workshop in an Active Learning

During the first day the participants discussed about the concept of active learning and we  introduced the topic of m-learning with activities such as pollings to develop and reflect upon those topics.


Day 2: Gamification

The second day  focused on the innovative teaching strategy called gamification and we  experienced a task as students so we can reflect on the gamified experience. We also saw examples and wel had some hands-on experience working with some tools.


Day 3: M-Learning

On the third daywe dealed with the concept of mobile learning and revised different apps for different learning purposes. We keeped on working with mobile apps in a productive way and reflecting upon their potential for using them inside and outside our HE classes. In the afternoon, we  introduced participants how to plan a instructional design taking into account m-learning.


Day 4 morning: Gamification

In the morning we discovered different resources and tools to help us gamified learning experiences. and we planed a gamified teaching intervention collaboratively.


Day 4 afternoon: Virtual Reality

We visited the EVENT LAB to introduce ourselves in the realms of virtual reality for educational purposes.


Day 5: Presentations

The final day of the course was devoted to the presentation of participants final product in the format of Pecha Kucha. We also took some time to evaluate the course.

This course was very practical in nature putting participants in the role of learners so later we can reflect on the teaching procedures.

During the week, participants designed an individual teaching intervention based on m-learning and/or gamification in collaboration with their peers.
